Billy Marrows Octet
Formed from some of London’s most exciting young jazz musicians, the Billy Marrows Octet play original contemporary jazz with influences including Django Bates and Steve Reich. Billy won the 2016 Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition and was commissioned to write and perform a suite for his octet by Lancaster Jazz Festival. Entitled the Gamelancaster suite, it explores concepts from Gamelan to fuel an innovative new approach to composition that is brimming with evocative melodies, harmonies and grooves. Billy’s writing has been described as ‘fresh and unpredictable’ by Jazzwise magazine and is elevated to another level by his band of highly creative improvisers.
